ICE AND ORANGES was not the original title of the film project ARTE Strasbourg commissioned from us. Searching for a production team for a ‘theme’ series on the accession of the ten new member states to the EC, scheduled at short notice, Claudia Bucher, who reports to Hans-Robert Eisenhauer, contacted us.
Irene Langemann submitted a concept envisaging a journey from Tallinn’s frozen harbour to the Mediterranean orange groves of Malta. Hectic and strenuous months followed, especially for the shooting team with Dieter Stürmer as camera operator, Ralf Weber as assistant, and Irene Langmann as author and director. Caroline Nokel researched the project from Cologne.
When the 87-minute-long film was completed to the satisfaction of all involved, we could look back on a stimulating and enriching experience: the “new/old” countries of Europe will enrich the “old” ones culturally.
